What is it?

The Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) is the minimum package of didactic skills which each lecturer should possess.

With effect from 1 January 2008, Leiden University will be assessing all new lecturers on these skills.  Incumbent lecturers are presumed to meet the requirements unless otherwise determined in their Performance and Development Interviews.

The BKO is a quality assessment, but it also helps new lecturers with little or no teaching experience to further develop their teaching skills during their initial training period.
