Gulliver, as Jonathan Swift tells us, studied medicine at Leiden University. With this qualification he set out on his journey as the doctor among the crew and thus began all his fantastic adventures.
John Quincy Adams, the 6th President of USA, studied at Leiden University when his father John Adams, later the 2nd President, was posted in Europe. The son later returned as the US minister to the Netherlands at the age of 27.
Albert Einstein frequently lectured at Leiden University in the 1920s before he fled Europe. Recently a student here stumbled on a 16-page manuscript by Einstein, dated 1924. However, it took scientists up to 1995 to finally prove the theory right. |
