Prof. Marijk van der Wende
Chair CHEPS, Twente University, The Netherlands

Marijk van der Wende holds a chair at CHEPS in comparative higher education studies with special reference to the impact of globalisation and network technologies. She is also a professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (chair: innovation in higher education). She is currently the President of the Governing Board of the OECD's Programme on Institutional Management in Higher Education (IMHE). Marijk van der Wende is a member of the Standing Committee on Recognition of Flemish Higher Education, and member of various national and international advisory committees and editorial boards.
She graduated as a school teacher in 1980 and continued her studies with a Bachelor's (1984) and a Master's degree (1991) in Educational Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. In 1996, she received her Ph.D. from Utrecht University. Between 1980 and 1985, she was involved in school innovation and curriculum development. From 1986 to 1990, she studied and worked in France. From 1992 to 1998, she worked at NUFFIC (the Netherlands Organisation for International Cooperation in Higher Education) as a senior researcher and coordinator for studies and training. From 1993-1998 she also was the research coordinator of the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) in Brussels. She joined CHEPS in 1998 in conjunction with a senior advisory position in the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. In 2001 she was a visiting scholar at the Centre for Studies in Higher Education, at the University of California, Berkeley.
Van der Wende is involved in the CHEPS' Ph.D. programme, and the CHEPS international Ph.D. Summer School. She is a senior lecturer on the European M.Phil. Programme on Higher Education (University of Oslo) and the ERASMUS MUNDUS Master Programme on Higher Education (Oslo, Tampere, Aveiro, Twente) (ICT).
