Rules and Regulations

  1. The Student Charter

    Summary of the Student Charter

  2. Other University Regulations

The "Studentenstatuut" gives access to those university regulations which are of particular relevance to students.

It informs Leiden University students (who are enrolled in an regular government funded degree programme) about what they can expect from the University and what the University expects from them. The charter is first and foremost a complete collection of the students' rights and obligations, but it also contains information about student facilities at our University. Furthermore, it offers an overview of the legal protection afforded to students.

Summary of the Student Charter

We have compiled a short summary (pdf) of the official student charter for quick reference in the form of a booklet (called "Rules and Regulations") where you will find:

  • the most important students' rights and obligations, and some information about student facilities at our University
  • an overview of the legal obligations and rights available to international students following any of the government-funded degree programmes: (Where relevant, extra information that we consider important to non-Dutch students has been added)

Intended audience of this booklet:
The rules and regulations mentioned in the booklet / summary apply only to (international) students of Leiden University who are enrolled in an initial, government-funded degree programme. The booklet is not applicable to students following one of the Master of Advanced Studies in Law (LL.M adv.) programmes or the MA in International Relations and Diplomacy and non-degree programmes.

Other University Regulations

Besides those regulations which are mentioned in the Student Charter, the university and its community are also bound by a number of additional regulations which cover various subjects.

The university is in the process of translating all available regulations.

Please refer to the website Universitaire Regelingen for a list of available university regulations.
